Strand Magazine Critics Awards

Confessions of an Idiosyncratic Mind: The Strand Critics Award Takes a Bow: "I know, it's yet another award nomination list, but this time the Strand Magazine has assembled an impressive list of judges including David Montgomery, Hallie Ephron, Patrick Anderson, Dick Lochte, Larry Gandle, Oline Cogdill and myself, along with the magazine's publisher Andrew Gulli."

The list is at the link.

No, really...particularly for a short fiction magazine to be sponsoring an award, where's the short fiction? Even if the hosting magazine is over- or underrepresented. You know, there's already a fair amount of recognition for novels. But, then again, to some extent perhaps this is meant to help boost book ad volume in THE STRAND?

Could be. Maybe they didn't want to have a short fiction award because they might be accused of boosting their own writers. They should do what EQMM does and have an award for stories in the magazine, a "readers' favorite."
