Robert Easton, R. I. P.

latimes.com: Robert Easton, a character actor whose command of a vast array of foreign and American regional accents led to a flourishing second career as a dialect coach to Hollywood stars such as Charlton Heston and Anne Hathaway, has died. He was 81.

Hat tip to Doc Quatermass.

When I think of Robert Easton I always remember his small part as "Dusty Acres", the cowboy star trying ridiculously to learn a British accent from John Gielgud to play a Bertie Wooste-ish twit in the movie-inside-of-the-movie in 1965's THE LOVED ONE.

Ironically enough he was the one actually hired behind the scenes of THE LOVED ONE itself to coach (coax?) Robert Morse into an adequate British accent as Dennis Barlow, the lead role. (Unfortunately Morse never did master it.)

The irony is that he usually played a total hick from the sticks. He was a Whiz Kid in radio days, too.
