I worked my way through just about all of MacLean's books as a teenager--borrowed them from my dad, who was a big fan at the time. I loved them, too, though I thought some of the later ones weren't as good. Characterization was not his strong suit, but man could he bring the action and ratchet up the tension to keep you turning pages. It may be time for me to do a re-read of his works. He definitely deserves a revival.

Some of the later ones were pretty bad, but the early stuff was great.
