Haven't heard of Peter Cheyne. His mystery looks good.

He wrote a lot of books. The quality varies.

I discovered and read most of Cheyney in the 1960s when I was stationed in Germany and often the only thrillers in English you could find were by Edgar Wallace and Peter Cheyney. I found Wallace flat and boring, but I still sample Cheyney from time to time. The books with "Dark" in the titles are his best; edgy WWII espionage. The early Slim Callaghans are fun in a Cleve F. Adams kind of way and since I'm referencing American hardboiled writers, if you've ever wondered what a Dan Turner story would read like if written by a Brit, the Lemmy Cautions novels are recommended.
