You can't go wrong with lyrics like that.

I knew someone who used this song as the first dance at her wedding. She refused to believe it was a remake until I sent her a link to the B.J. Thomas version. Elvis also did a version not long after the original.

I have to admit that I think this one improves on the original. Too bad B.J. Thomas' arranger didn't think of the ooga chucka bit. Neither did Elvis'.

I didn't know this:

Blue Swede recorded Thomas' song in 1973, but based its rendition of the song on a 1971 version released by British pop eccentric Jonathan King, which used the ooga-chaka ooga-chaka background.

Jonathan King sang that obscure oldie "Everyone's Gone to the Moon." Unfortunately, he was later arrested for crimes involving children.

Deb, I knew the first thing but not the second until I checked Wikipedia yesterday. First the hideous Jimmy Savile, then Rolf Harris, now King. What is going on with these people?

Don't forget Gary Glitter, who--despite having been incarcerated--promptly went back to his old ways upon release!

As for Jimmy Savile, when we lived in England (in the 1960s), one of our neighbors was Savile's sister or cousin (can't remember which) and she never had a good word to say about him if that gives you any idea of what he was like before his more heinous crimes were uncovered.
