Back when we picked up the phone and talked to the operator, the town where Judy lived was so small, she could just say, "I want to talk to my daddy" and get connected.

/Not really. It was AMherst 4--but those names were already being phased out by the time I started making phone calls.

These were on the way out when I was a kid. But I do remember our home phone number in an Indianapolis suburb ca. 1961: STate 7-2613.

Wasn't Murray Hill also the name of a record label? I seem to remember "classical collections from Murray Hill records" but it's very hazy.
