I'm surprised Homer didn't make the list. I'd say he's a bit more famous than those two Danish brothers who fought for King Vertigern in the 500s.

The whole Shakespeare thing reminds me of our tour of "Anne Hathaway's Cottage" (sic, apparently) in Stratford some 40 years ago. The guide frankly told us it was a case of what she called "phony folklore" and said it was a cottage of the period but probably had nothing to do with Hathaway.

True story: a few years ago, a pastor at our church spoke of visiting Anne Hathaway's cottage while on a trip to England. As we were filing out after the service, I heard two people talking about Anne Hathaway (the actress) and wondering why her English house was a tourist destination!
