Croc Update

Eveningstar.co.uk: VISITORS to the banks of the Orwell were today warned about an unexpected danger from global warming - a family of Australian crocodiles has taken up residence in the river.

The creatures are a breed that is native in the rivers and coastal estuaries of Southern Australia, around the coast from Sydney to Perth.

The Australian Cayman (crocodylus aprifolus) is closely related to the better-known salt water crocodile which is found in the northern coastal areas of the country and was featured in the Crocodile Dundee films.

I hate to contradict the media on anything but as a Sydney resident & someone who has lived in Sydney or south of it all his life I can tell you for a fact that there are no crocs of any species to be found in southern Australia. (In fact, although I'm not sure of it, I don't think we have any caymans here. We have freshwater crocs & their ginormous salty cousins but they are all found in the tropical regions of Australia, i.e. the far north of Oz.) I don't know where these illegal caymans are from but someone needs to look closer at their visas/passports.
Cheers!

I'm shocked -- shocked! -- to think that the media might have made a blunder.
