The 100 Best Characters in Fiction Since 1900 — Infoplease.com: "Book Magazine, now defunct, compiled a panel of 55 authors, literary agents, editors, and actors in 2002 to “rank the top one hundred characters in literature since 1900.”"

Whatever happened to Dan Rhodes Too Late to Die 1986, Carl Burns (or "Boss" Napier for that matter) One Dead Dean 1988? At least one of these should get at least as much shake as Harry Potter.

I love these "best" and "top" lists because the criteria used are always so clear, rigorously defended, and irrefutable. The Tolkien fans will go ballistic because Frodo and Gandalf are absent -- not to worry, they'll show up in somebody else's "best" list next week.
