Simply Ballroom

This afternoon Judy and drove down to Galveston to see Simply Ballroom. It's a show that has overtones of Dancing with the Stars and American Idol. With Debbie Reynolds thrown in for good measure. Nine couples, all dance champions from around the world, do the quick step, foxtrot, waltz, and so on. Reynolds is the host, and two Idol finalists provide some vocals. I've never seen a single episode of Idol, but the two are Kimberley Locke and Anthony Fedorov from season four.

It's a lot of fun to watch the dancers, who are all young and full of a lot more energy than I remember having when I was their age. It was kind of nice to see Debbie Reynolds, a native Texan, and her monologs were amusing. She even sang "Tammy," and did a fine job of it, too.

Why did we go to this show? Because Judy loves ballroom dancing. She's tried for years to get me interested in signing up for classes, but I have the dancing ability of a brick. It's a lost cause, so the least I could do was take her to see this. It was the first sort of "normal" outing we've had in a very long time, and we both enjoyed it.

Actually the Idol singers are Vonzell Solomon and Anthony Fedorov, both from Season 4. Kim Locke was originally supposed to do it, but they replaced her with Anthony. How did they do in the show ?

Energy? I seem to remember somebody running...or maybe just subscribing to the magazines????

Turn up the music, Bill. And sign up for the class. Invite me to the recital :-)

The IDOL singers were excellent. I need to make the change in the comment.

Believe me, Angie, while I might have energy, it's not a lot. And I still can't dance!

hell, i'll dance with the old girl. i guess i'd have to shower first. tell you what, that's too radical, i'll just teach you instead: i could teach an anvil to dance.

I'm about as agile as an anvil, all right, but maybe you could succeed.

I remember you and Judy making a whirling entrance onto the dance floor at a B'con years ago. You looked like Fred and Ginger to me. Okay, Fred Smoot and Ginger Rogers, but what the hey? I was impressed. Anyway, I took ballroom dance lessons years ago and it's not that difficult. Tap dance, now that was hard.

Funny, but I don't remember that at all.

I think you should at least give the ballroom dancing lessons a try. You never know, you may still surprise yourself. There are lots of different ballroom dances you can try. There’s the tango, the foxtrot, the waltz, the quick step…Lots of different dances, and one of them just might fit you. The dance lessons might even bring you and Judy closer as a couple!
