Ponciano Ponce, R. I. P.

latimes.com: Ponciano "Poncie" Ponce, 80, a Hawaiian-born actor who had a burst of fame in the early 1960s while appearing in the tropical TV detective drama "Hawaiian Eye," died July 19 at his Los Angeles home, his family announced.

In the early 1970s I saw him (and the Waikiki Twins) live in the basement cocktail lounge of a hotel (can't remember the hotel's name) in Japantown, San Francisco. Cracked crab & martinis.

I couldn't remember the name of the character Poncie played, but I recall the way he was described in the promos for the show, "...a taxi driver who's always in high gear!" Don't ask me why that's stuck in my head all these years.
