Didn't we have this ranking before, like a couple of years ago? Of course he's probably written half a dozen books since then.

OK, I think it's A different ranking than the last time. That said, even though I do agree with some of it (#1 is a no brainer for me) there are several books (IT, the Dark Tower stuff) that I would push way down the list and others I would rate higher. Of course I haven't read all of them but I have read 40.

Like Jeff, I've read plenty of Stephen King. My favorite is SALEM'S LOT.

I was going to mention SALEM'S LOT as one not ranked as high as it should be (to my mind).

Yes, it's a different list, but THE STAND is #1 on both. And 'SALEM'S LOT is still one of my favorites, whereas IT was the book that turned me off King for a long time.

I really hated the end of CUJO.

"The Dark Tower" as published in F&SF, along with such scattered items as "The Cat from Hell" and "The Night of the Tiger" (but particularly the first two) cooled all the mild enthusiasm that had survived "The Mist" after mostly liking CARRIE...what about IT was the big turnoff? I can only imagine that at that length, prolixity ruled supreme.

That was exactly the problem for me, Todd.
