The Sad Puppies turned this into a farce.

It's been a farce for years. The puppies just showed it for what it is.

Does anyone know if there's any other genre award that is voted on the way the Hugos are (purchased membership in an organization)? It seems a strange way to do it.

BTW, both the nominations a few months ago and the results yesterday were known before the announcements if you read certain message boards. It's clear that the results are leaked by whoever is responsible for such things. The whole process (nominating, voting, counting) is seriously flawed.

I sort of followed the sad puppies thing for a while. Weird doings.

But note: No award for novella or for short story. Really weird.

The Anthonys are voted on by people who have bought Bouchercon memberships:

People bloc-reacted to the Tea Puppies' bloc-voting, and did their damnedest to deny the Puppy noms any wins whatsoever.

Aside from the Anthonys and the Hugos, I'm reminded of the MLB All-Stars, the People's Choice Awards, LOCUS Awards, and the like. Of course, one doesn't have to buy a membership for most of these, aside from the Bouchercon and WorldCon awards...but there might be other fees.

If only most of the Puppies' work was really that good, I suspect it would've prevailed a lot more traditionally than it has...there's been no lack of relatively right-wing and artistically conservative work nominated and awarded over the years, when deserving.
